Along with its cobblestone streets, stunning beaches, plentiful marine life, lush Sierra Madre Mountains, exceptional restaurants, fine Gourmet Festival, new golf courses, and vibrant culture, Puerto Vallarta is a vacationer's paradise, with an average year-round temperature of 80 F that has maintained its unique Old Mexico charm despite the addition of these modern conveniences. Known as a celebrity playground, Puerto Vallarta's prime setting between mountains and sea has made it a perennial Mexico favorite. |

Tourists flock to the area's thriving nightlife, restaurants, hotel and resort scene. Around Banderas Bay, the second-largest bay in the western hemisphere, beautiful beaches, lush jungles, and sparkling waterfalls offer many opportunities for the adventurous, while world-class shopping and gourmet restaurants satisfy even the most sophisticated traveler. Stretching from the south end of Old Town to central downtown, a newly extended and refurbished boardwalk along the ocean, called the Malecon, often plays host to mimes, break dancers, clowns, and artists. The area around the seaside resort is very diverse. Tropical-forested mountains and mineral-rich volcanic slopes appear to literally rise from the sea. From the rugged Sierra Vallejo to the north and Sierra Cuale to the south, rich lush green slopes overlook Banderas Bay. Puerto Vallarta has many activities and excursions to keep you entertained. The adventurous can hike or mountain bike in the hills, explore the jungle and hidden trails on horseback, take a Jeep safari, snorkel, scuba dive, charter a yacht or sailboat, or take a cruise on one of the many party boats. Whatever you want to do here can be easily arranged. |

Sightseeing in and around Puerto Vallarta is varied. Boat tours are among the most popular, with many options for whale watching trips, snorkeling, and scuba diving excursions. There are a range of dinner cruises which allow travelers to eat above deck, while sailing into the sunset and under the stars. Tourists searching for a little relaxation at the end of their boat trip will enjoy a day trip to Caletas. Formerly the home of John Huston, the restored mansion hides back inside a beautiful cove. |

If shopping is your sport of choice, you’ll find an excellent group of small, local shops. Art, clothing, home accessories and, of course, silver are all available at the market. If you tour Puerto Vallarta beaches, merchants will likely find you. Many locals sell their goods up and down the beach during the day. |
